Are there some limitations of size and duration?
In theory, you don't have any limitation of duration. Uploads are limited to 20 megabytes for optimized performances though. To reduce the size of long videos, choose the "rectangulare area" option to record just a portion of your screen.
How can I record a screencast?
- First, create an account. Log in and click on "Start recording".
- Wait for the service to load.
- The service may need some validations the first time ScreenToaster is executed on your computer (Firewall configuration, Java certificates...)
- Configure your settings (fullscreen or rectangular area, audio and webcam settings...).
- Go to the website/window you want to record.
- Push ALT + S to immediately start recording or click on the "Record" button to start a 5 seconds timer before recording.
- Push ALT + S to pause your video. Push ALT + S again to continue recording your video.
- When finished, go back to the ScreenToaster page and click on "Stop recording".
- You'll be automatically redirected to a preview of your video and to the edition tools.
What is the "Geek mode"?
It is a sum of advanced functionalities you can unlock by clicking on "Geek Mode" on the Recording settings panel:
- Playback Speed: Accelerated or slow-motion playback.
- Record from external VNC servers.
- Change average bitrate.
My video bufferizes, what shall I do?
You may encounter problems during the publication process if you upload more than 20 MegaBytes.
Try to record shorter videos or choose "rectangulare area" to record just a portion of your screen.
Hints for optimized screencasts:
- Close the main running applications before recording to gain fluidity.
- Avoid fullscreen recordings for video recapture and complex 3D images.
- Avoid to move your mouse too fast during the recording.
- Avoid to use your mouse scroll wheel. Prefer the Page Down / Page Up arrows.
- Avoid to move the windows of your navigator.
- Avoid to use the scrollbar on your navigator.
- Avoid to capture ads with lots of animations.
What is the minimal configuration to run ScreenToaster?
